CAUTIONS~Typhoon is coming toward Japan~

.

🌧️ Rainfall Forecast (Next 24 Hours)

General Situation
From western to eastern Japan, warm and moist air is flowing in around the edge of a typhoon and the Pacific High. This will make the atmosphere very unstable through Friday, September 5. Even areas far from the typhoon may experience very heavy rain with thunder. A stationary front will also extend into northern Japan, bringing stronger rainfall there.

⏰ Expected Rainfall by Friday Evening (max amounts)

  • Tokai: 300 mm
  • Kinki & Shikoku: 250 mm
  • Kanto-Koshin & Northern Kyushu: 200 mm
  • Tohoku: 150 mm
  • Chugoku & Southern Kyushu: 120 mm
  • Hokuriku: 100 mm

⚡ Risk of Linear Rainbands (Senjo-Kousuitai)

If linear rainbands form, local rainfall could increase even more, raising the risk of flooding and landslides.

Areas and Timeframes at Higher Risk

  • Southern Kyushu (Miyazaki): until late Thu (Sep 4) night
  • Northern Kyushu (Oita): until early Fri (Sep 5) morning
  • Kinki (Wakayama): Fri (Sep 5) early morning to before noon
  • Tohoku (Iwate, Miyagi): Fri (Sep 5) dawn to before noon
  • Shikoku (Tokushima, Ehime, Kochi): until Fri (Sep 5) late morning
  • Tokai (Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie): Thu (Sep 4) evening to Fri (Sep 5) early afternoon

🚉 Impact on Public Transportation

  • Railways: Delays and possible suspensions are expected, especially in western and central Japan (Kyushu, Shikoku, Kinki, and Tokai regions) where heavy rain and landslides could affect train tracks.
  • Air travel: Flight cancellations or delays are likely at major airports such as Fukuoka, Kansai, Chubu (Nagoya), and Haneda, depending on wind and rainfall conditions.
  • Highways & local roads: Flooding, landslides, and poor visibility may cause closures or traffic restrictions. Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel.

If Shinkansen (bullet train) service is suspended and you already have a reserved seat:

  1. Full Refund – You can receive a full refund at any JR ticket counter (Midori no Madoguchi) or via the method you purchased (online/app).
  2. Change to Another Train – If trains are running later the same day, you can use the same ticket for a different service (no extra fee).
  3. Next-Day Use – Tickets can be used the following day if trains resume.
  4. Hotel/Alternative Transport – If long suspensions occur, passengers must arrange their own accommodation or buses; JR does not provide hotels.
  5. Keep the Ticket – Always keep your unused ticket to claim a refund or rebooking.

Travelers are strongly advised to check real-time updates on the JR Central, JR West, or JR East websites/apps before heading to the station.
